random ramblings of an unconscious mind
As a person who was tired of watching the message “this video is not available in your country/region/location” I was thrilled to find a solution to my problem. Being an US citizen, I wanted to enjoy the perks of living in a digital age, connected with the US, while being away from it.
I am aware that there are quite a few ways to do that (free and for a small fee), even video guides, but i will relay my personal life-savior. First i attempted to implement the various options suggested by LifeHacker. You could choose from working with and without proxy, through a firefox add-on for windows, mac and linux. Either i did not do something right, or i did not restart the mac. Nevertheless, whatever the glitch, i was still blocked from various US sites with free video streaming. Then i decided to check out the free, fast ‘n’ easy option provided by TUNRL. Tunlr is a fun project run by a few enthusiasts, who use it and wanted to share it with the public. So now it is my turn to share it with you. The directions are really simple, even for someone as ignorant as me. Simply you add DNS ips and restart your computer. TADA!!!! Hulu no longer discriminated against my various locations. I could once again re-watch the free web series Rockville CA from The WB. Tunrl provides you with a method which is free, you won’t require to register with them, nor create an account, there is no software to install, and you can watch HD streaming without limitations (depending on the speed of your own internet connection). Mind you, that Tunlr does not enable free access to paid content. However you can now get US free content, with ads, warts and all.
You can watch Netflix (if you have an account with them), MTV, CBS, ABC, CW, PBS, The WB, Hulu, Pandora and many more US restricted streaming videos, as well as BBC & ITV iplayer. It is applicable on both Mac and PC. You can also find info on watching Netflix/HuluPlus on iPad, AppleTV and XBox360. Basically you can watch whatever you want, whenever you want. OK some restrictions apply. For example, the following websites are not Tunrl friendly: Youtube, Amazon Instant Video, Cinemanow, Vudu, Teleboy, Wilmaa, Starz, HGTV, Foodnetwork, Channel 4 live streams and 4OD, BBC live streams, TVCatchup, ESPN, MLB, Google Play and Spotify. Also Chrome has not proved to be compatible with Tunlr. Safari and Firefox are both operational.
I invite you to test this option, or suggest your own. After Tunlr proved to be effective i was overwhelmed with streaming options. Ended up watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer on Hulu up until the sunrise.
