Edingburgh’s Fringe Festival is hiring!
Many of you might know of Edinburgh’s notorious arts festival “Fringe” (editor’s note: not in any way affiliated with the TV series) which takes place each August (3-27), including music, dance, theater, stand up and any other form of performance imaginable. It has become an institution where breakthrough performances have been showcased and other cities around the world have imitated it (e.g.: Athens Fringe).
I have always wanted to visited Fringe Festival, but have not yet been able to do so. This year, since i resigned from my former occupation, i found myself looking at Fringe Festival as an employment opportunity. It will be a temporary job, during the summer, providing me with additional experience on event management. I was looking on the job postings, noting that the deadline is nearing, however what has been holding me back from applying is two things.
First of all, among the essential requirements for applying is to have knowledge of Edinburgh, as a city, which i lack; i have only been there twice, visiting friends. I am familiar with the city on a very elementary level. Secondly, if i get selected for interview, i will have to travel there prior to the festival on sometime during 18 June (a quick research of flights from Athens to Edinburgh amounted to approximately €250), and if, i say if i get selected to work there i will then have to spend another lump-sum for getting there at the end of July. Housing i consider it to be an easier task, since i have two acquaintances that i suppose they could provide me with shelter during that month.
Therefore, my fundamental question for jointing all this down is… should i apply? Send my C.V. and see what happens then? Or are the issues presented signaling me with bright neon light: “Need not apply”?
